My name is Lara Lain – I am a freelance horse rider and horse riding coach / trainer offering my help, experience and services to horses, ponies, owners & riders across Pembrokeshire in West Wales.
I am in my late 30’s and have been riding since I was 5 years old. My first love and main passion is showjumping but as I always say ‘any excuse to be with the horses’ so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you are in need of an extra pair of hands for your horse/pony or if you want a kind, experienced and positive coach to help improve your own riding.
I am delighted to help horses, ponies, owners & riders with anything they may need. I am small and weigh around 9st so can ride anything 13hh and up – anything smaller I would be happy to do work from the ground for you.
I love training riders and can help you with anything from improving your confidence, to getting the basics right, to moving on up to a good level of a showjumping and everything in between.
I have competed in various disciplines over the years, ridden many ponies & horses and also ridden in different countries. My pony competed in the Welsh team as a 138cm and my best horse went from British Novice to Grade B & winning at 120m level with me – he went on to be amazing Grade A, a real life unicorn! I have worked at Horse magazine in London and travelled around lots of the UK show jumping and chasing rosettes at National Finals. I have been trained by some highly respected riders and I always try to take all of my learnings forward, to the horses & riders I spend time with now.
I currently have my own 4yro, who I have had since a 3yro to produce with a view to showjumping myself.

What do you offer as a Freelance Rider?
I ride other owners/ riders horses & ponies if they want any kind of extra help. This could be a rider who has lost their confidence or perhaps an owner who is going on holiday. It could be a rider who wants their horse jumped or schooled to a higher level that what they usually do. I essentially offer myself out to ride other peoples horses & ponies as/ when they need me.
When are you available?
I am free in the evenings and on weekends – all year around (yep, winter riding in the worst of it is totally fine!). I work full time as a professional marketer, so everything horsey related fits around that.
What horse riding coaching and training do you offer?
I am currently training to be a British Horse Society (BHS) certified coach – I am not yet officially qualified but can offer years of my personal experience plus many tips, tricks and strategies that I have learned from being trained by various coaches during my own years as a competition rider. I love coaching and would be delighted to help you achieve your personal goals.
Are you insured to ride other peoples horses & train riders?
Yes. I am fully insured for both coaching and riding other people’s horses.
What horse riding services do you offer?
Hacking, schooling, pole-work, grid-work, jumping, fitness work – anything and everything depending on what support the horse/pony and owner need.
Do you take on problem horses?
I don’t mind tricky, young or green horses and will get on pretty much anything to see what I can do to help. If a horse has severe behavioural issues (eg. rearing in an attempt to flip itself over backwards) I would prefer not to, for safety reasons. Let me know what you need help with and let’s see what we can do. There’s not much I will say no to, so please just ask and we can chat.

I charge £15 per ride/ training session
