Hi there,

Hope you are keeping well. Thank you for visiting my blog.

I’m Lara Lain. Born in 1985, proudly from Pembroke – a small, beautiful town in West Wales, UK.

Larasstory (the blog!) has been published since March 2015 and I’ve been writing online since 2010.

Over the years I have shared all sorts including; travel, fitness, relationships, mental health and tips for living better days … I’ve documented many highs (and some rough times too!).

I’ve worked for the world’s biggest publishing houses in London and scouted the globe as a solo female traveller.

During my travels I lived and worked in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand – Queenstown, New Zealand and Salvador, Brazil. I spent 2019 working in the world’s oldest rainforest in Cairns, Queensland.

From May 2014 – May 2020, I regarded Bondi Beach, Sydney as my ‘home’. Adventures and work took me away a few times but I kept finding a path back to my beachside lifestyle.

I am currently home in Wales – returning 16 years after leaving in 2004. I flew home to the UK after 8 traumatic weeks of Covid-19 lockdown in Bondi. I am documenting the who / what/ why’s around this in a mini-series which I am also working on turning into a book.

Larasstory – The Book is coming! Keep an eye on the blog for weekly chapter releases!

I love to write and hope my blog gives you something worth coming back for.

11 Fast Facts (updated 9th July 2020).

#1 I used to be a show jumper. Horses were my life! I only sold my unicorn, Malcolm, to go travelling – he is a Grade A Irish Sports Horse. Mally didn’t mind me going away – he has lived like a King with Jade ever since! You can follow his adventures on Instagram @jchsporthorses

#2 On April 15th 1998 (when I was 12!) I was lucky enough to buy a little ginger ball of fire called Holly. I named her I’m A Firestarter due to the colour of her and the fact it was my fave song at the time!. She was my best mate, we won everything! Holly went on to jump on the Welsh team. To this day I still own her. I have sent money home to Wales every month for my friend Emily, who (amazingly!) looks after her for the last 10 years. Holly is a love of my life.

#3 I hold a 2:1 Bachelors Degree in English Literature. I also have a Masters Degree in English Literature, I specialised in William Shakespeare. I studied for four years at Cardiff University.

#4 I hustled hard and worked for six years in London for the biggest publishing brands in the world.

#5 The Sun, The News of the World, The Times, The Daily Express, Horse & Hound, Nuts magazine, Loaded magazine, Decanter magazine and LOOK magazine are just a few of the brands I was lucky enough to learn my craft with.

#6 I was the Marketing Executive at LOOK magazine, Britain’s Best Selling Fashion Weekly, for four years. I won ‘Marketing Executive of the Year’ during this amazing time in my career.

#7 After London, age 28, I solo travelled and worked in Asia, Australia, Brazil and New Zealand during 2014 – 2016.

#8 I flew back to Sydney in February 2016 to lay down my roots and secure my Permanent Residency visa. My visa application process started in October 2018 and it is still in process!

#9 I love dogs, horses, beach life, travel, cups of tea and working out (especially running!).

#10 I am a content and growth expert, with 14+ years marketing global brands. On December 19th 2019 I joined Finder as Publisher, Rest of World. My job allows me to work with some of the best brains in Sydney / the world. Join me on LinkedIn.

#11 I’ve been talking about ‘writing my book, I wanna write a book!’ for years. When I returned to the UK in May 2020 everything clicked and I wrote the entire ‘Larasstory’ during one evening around 10 days or so after I landed back on UK soil.
It was magic to see it finally come to life in black and white – I am on a mission to get it published. … It’s my ultimate dream to have a physical book in my hands. I look forward to sharing the journey with you. Thank you for your support 🙂
